Spring is here! So, I couldn’t wait to purge winter and chalk the chalkboard in my Simple Modern Farmhouse Spring Kitchen. I went for a natural palette of greens, white, a pale orange, robin’s egg and a touch of gold. You can scroll down to see how you can get the look, but for now, let’s take a look…
Dressing up the chalkboard is such a fun way to switch seasons. The simple spring wreath sets the tone. The natural bow (seen in some pics) was simply tied around the wreath, and the ends were cut into points. A bowl full of natural eggs in waiting sits next to a white tea towel with pale green carrots. I then added faux grass which sits in a natural, cardboard cup. The moss covered basket holds six gold-touched eggs. Carrot garland lends a pale orange pop to the setting and the recipe box is robin’s egg.
Here you can see how my kitchen buffet and chalkboard changed for spring. A Valentine vignette turned into a spring vignette. (Subscribe and keep your eyes peeled for the DIY buffet you see in these pics!)
A fresh spring chalking and a few seasonal changes made the kitchen feel as light and airy as the season. Of course, that beautiful spring sun certainly helps brighten things up.

My sweet girl likes to get comfy on that gorgeous 10ft Ruggable. You can click on the Ruggable link here and search for the Dress Stewart Tartan. There are all different sizes, but mine is the 2.5 x 10ft runner.
Lastly, I added in some pretty spring flora. This realistic, faux plant is from Target. The end table it’s sitting on is from Target also. The couch is Ikea Ektorp and the trellis rug is this one on Amazon.
So, I hope this Simple Modern Farmhouse Spring Kitchen post has inspired you to purge those winter woes! Comment and let me know how your spring kitchen is coming along. π
If you don’t have a chalkboard, but want one, you’ve got choices. I painted my chalkboard on the wall using Rust-Oleum’s Chalkboard Paint, but If you’d rather not tackle that project, here’s a very similar, huge chalkboard you may like – it’s even magnetic:
Or there’s this one, also magnetic, for smaller spaces:
And here’s a FANTASTIC resource for chalking: The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering: Create and Develop Your Own Style – INCLUDES 3 BUILT-IN CHALKBOARDS
100% RECOMMEND!!
So, I’ve had this book for years and I refer to it EVERY TIME I go to chalk my chalkboard. If you’ve got a chalkboard, it’s a must have! Even if you have awful penmanship, like me, this book will really help take your chalking to the next level.
Here you can see the difference between before and after I got The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering. The first pic is definitely before the book. I tried. lol
Also, don’t forget your liquid chalk markers (#gamechanger)! This is an awesome set. It comes with stencils, labels and a little chalkboard also.

We painted one wall in my teenage daughterβs room and she uses it a lot. However, itβs not easy to get a clean wash. Do you ever get it look βnewβ again? Ours stays cloudy from old drawings.
Carolyn | 17th Mar 21
Hi, Joanna! Yes, there are some things you can do. First, you want to be sure that you condition the chalkboard paint once it’s up on the wall and before you begin to use it. You may have done that, but if not all that entails is going over the entire board with the side of white chalk, then wiping it off. This will definitely help somewhat. However, some ghosting will still show. I have found that a mixture of vinegar and water works well to clean the chalkboard. A microfiber cloth is very helpful and a cheap squeegee also does the job. For those stubborn ghosts, you can use a magic eraser with a little vinegar on it. The magic eraser should be used sparingly though, only for the toughest ghosting as it will remove a bit of paint too. I have heard that lemon oil works to give back that shine, but I haven’t tried this, since I prefer the “lived in” look. lol I hope this helps!! π
