We made it to the halfway mark – WEEK 4 – of the One Room Challenge! WOO-HOO for us all! (Check out all the ORC projects here.) This week Home and Darlings begins to tackle the Master Bedroom Feature Wall, behind the bed. It will be a layered look and this is the first part, the backdrop layer. If you’re like me, then you like switching things up from time to time – or maybe all the time. Which is why I am LOVING this feature wall. It’s kinda classy, a bit delicate, yet bold as well, and very importantly it’s EASILY removable! Fantastic for renters or for anyone who just doesn’t want to commit to a forever feature wall. Seems a perfect project for a spot on my obsession site – Apartment Therapy… (HINT) 😀
Let’s take a look back to where we started…
While this post contains affiliate links which may send me a few coins, I only recommend what I love and it never costs you a cent. If you like what you see, then go through me!
Keenly aware of the budget I must keep – #cheap – I decided to use this removable peel and stick wallpaper, which I already had, for the backdrop layer. This was one of those – just because I loved it – buys, not because I needed it (never do that). But I just KNEW I’d need it someday and now is someday. It’s called Cream Grassweave, by NuWallpaper, and it’s really SO pretty and calming, kinda like a slice of beach, but not really.
Except I only had one roll on hand, just 16 feet of it. Determined to use that pretty paper no matter, I thought I’d place it horizontally above the bed, then give it a delicate detail along the edges.
This paper is TOUGH. Numerous times the roll fell hard and I thought it’d rip, but nope. Not even a tiny tear.
I thought square balsa wood strips would do the trick for that delicate trim I was looking for. Balsa wood is a very lightweight wood, almost feels like Styrofoam, so it doesn’t need much to hold it onto the wall. (I think a nail would split them.) All they need is a few poster Command Strips each, I used three per balsa wood. It doesn’t get much easier than this!
I thought about painting the wood strips or staining them, but I didn’t want them to compete with the wood of the bed and I think the natural wood compliments the grassweave nicely.
And there it is. Crazy easy and cheap – even if I had to buy the wallpaper it would have cost me less than $50 for two walls! WIN-WIN
That’s it for this week – thanks for stopping by!

This is a fun idea to update a bedroom with a removable feature. Very cool thought. I’ll bookmark this for future ideas. Thanks for sharing!
