Review of the Whirlpool Over-the-Range Microwave
There weren’t a lot of options for an over-the-range microwave that would fit in the space I have. The space measures approx. 30″ w x 8.7″ h. Previously, we had one of those simple range hoods, nothing to look at, metal, small and plain. Most OTR microwaves were just too large to fit and I wasn’t about to spend beaucoup bucks to remove cabinets. Enter the Whirlpool Over-the-Range Microwave measuring at slightly under 30″ wide and just over 10″ high. THIS microwave will fit my space! But will it be big enough? Will I only be able to heat mini-meals now? Not the mini-meal type, just sayin…
Let’s take a look back. Here’s my first adventure with my new Whirlpool microwave:

MY CONCERN:
I was worried that this microwave might not be large enough on the inside for full-sized dishes and glasses, etc., even though it’s supposed to be a full-sized unit.
THE VERDICT:
After all of us using this Whirlpool Over-the-Range Microwave for about 13 months and through two Thanksgivings, we have never encountered one issue. It has been more than large enough to fit everybody’s everything and with two teenaged boys in the house, I think that says it all! LOL
Things to keep in mind:
This unit plugs in. If you had a range hood which was hardwired, you’ll need to have an outlet installed if you don’t already have one. Thankfully, we have a cabinet above the microwave and our electrician was able to install an outlet in the cabinet so it can’t be seen.
Also, remember that this is your range hood too and so it needs to stick out from your cabinet, just as a hood does.
There’s my new backsplash and Ikea countertop! 🙂 I’m almost done installing the backsplash.
So do I LOVE this microwave? ABSOLUTELY! It gave me my counter space back and works like a charm! Highly recommend!

What’s the price of this Whirlpool Over-the-Range Microwave?
Well, it seems there’s quite a difference in pricing, for the exact same model at different retailers, online. We bought ours at Lowe’s in November, which is typically the best month to buy appliances, right before Thanksgiving. However, now I do see an online retailer with this unit for a really great price, so look around, for sure.
