Here, I’ll show you how to remove orange stains from the toilet – FOR REAL! While I love living in the country, there are some things I can live without, like those nasty, orange iron stains we get from that hard, well water. They seem *impossible* to get out! I have scrubbed and scrubbed, to no avail. I bought all sorts of liquid products promising a miracle, yet I got nothing but an aching back. But I’m here to tell you that, YES, Virginia, there is a simple fix! And it WORKS!

Isn’t she lovely? My pretty, sparkling throne.

She didn’t start out so lovely…

It’s hideous, I know, but you *must* see what I started with so you know that it’s actually possible to accomplish this. The orange is the result of an old, soft water system in disrepair. If you have this issue, it’s best to have your system repaired and/or maintained first. These systems do need annual maintenance for good performance. Once that’s done, you’ll need to do some scrubbing, but this time it will WORK. It’s really not that hard and kind of addicting.
Enter, the Pumie…

The Pumie Toilet Bowl Ring Remover is a pumice stone on a stick. There are no chemicals involved and it works amazingly well on porcelain, removing rust and lime buildup. All you do is put the stone to the stain and scrub! I got mine from Lowe’s.
There are other pumice stones that are not on a stick, but I am not that into my toilet – I want the stick! A little distance, please.
If your toilet is not white, then I’d definitely try it in an inconspicuous area to be sure it won’t remove the color. But for a white toilet it’s PERFECT! No scratches, just a squeaky clean loo.
I’m about to install a farmhouse sink in my kitchen and I was really, really worried about a permanent iron stain on that gorgeous porcelain sink. I’m no longer worried, not one bit!
Hope this helps! Let me know how it all comes out in your toilet! 😀
